Symptoms of Dyslexia

No one symptom characterizes dyslexia or any learning disability.  There will usually be a cluster of symptoms.  Some of the more common difficulties are listed below:

• Knowing the time, date, year
• Completing assignments
•  Rhyming
• Word retrieval
• Reading smoothly and with little effort for age
• Writing to reflect verbal knowledge
• Manipulating small objects
• Handwriting
• Learning new vocabulary
• Spelling
• Reading comprehension
• Remembering directions
• Distractibility/restlessness
• Making and keeping friends
• Frustration tolerance

Every dyslexic will have their unique pattern of strengths and weaknesses.  One symptom is not uncommon.  But a cluster of weaknesses in a sea of strengths is a concern.

Our center offers a screening process that shows a students strengths and weaknesses in a variety of these areas.  Our master teachers will screen the students and place them with the most effective tutors.  Our trained and supervised tutors will be working in a wide variety of locations throughout the Northland.
